Don't be SAD
Hello readers for the last Monday in November 2010.
Time as usual, has raced this year and especially this month. Which reminds me of an important seasonal illness. Called SAD , it’s Seasonal Adaptive Dis-ease, and the cause is lack of Vitamin D. Australians are inclined to assume that because we have so much sunshine, we could never drop down in our Vitamin levels. Not so. One of the symptoms is depression. A few years ago I used to get it in October (this was classical in Acupuncture language as it was two months after Winter). I used to think October was the longest month of the year and I had to do something to distract myself like organise a party or holiday to lift my spirits! I had a blood test and I was amazed to discover how low my Vitamin level was. Because I love the sun I couldn’t believe it until I realised that I was working through the sunny hours and wasn’t getting my daily dose of sunshine! These days with sunscreen lotions and people covering up whenever they were in the sun – not just the cruel midday sun in the Summer, it has been detected in more and more people. Unfortunately lack of Vitamin D can lead on to Osteoporosis, as our bones need this Vitamin. See your doctor for this test if you suffer depression.
A lady came for treatment because of neck stiffness and aching. I like to discover the reason for any condition developing so as to get to the cause. It could be a physical, physiological or mental/emotional cause. However finding the cause is important. So we went down many roads but by deduction settled on a bad chair support over several weeks. Posture needs to be well maintained because we spend hours in front of our computers and don’t realise the muscle strain happening. So after some Osteopathic treatment, a bit of acupuncture and a decision to take more notice of these things, the situation simply resolved itself. A full case history is important, so that other more dramatic conditions can be excluded.
That joke I promised…OK.
God was worried about the state of the population’s spiritual ethic on Earth. So he sent down an angel to investigate the situation. The angel came back with bad news. “God,” he said “ 95% of the population are misbehaving badly and only 5% are being good.”
Another angel was sent down and he gave the same sad message.
So God in his wisdom wanted to encourage the 5% who were doing the right thing and so he sent them all an email.
Do you know what it said?
No? Well, just checking… because I didn’t get one either!
